Here's what we were working with - a crawl space that needed a full moisture control overhaul. A lot of homes in the Holly Springs area deal with ground moisture working its way up through an unprotected crawl space. Left unchecked, that moisture causes wood rot, mold growth, higher energy bills, and musty air that eventually finds its way into the living space above.
For this job, we installed a full vapor barrier across the floor and up the foundation walls, creating a sealed envelope that cuts off ground moisture at the source. The liner runs wall-to-wall with clean, tight seams - no gaps, no shortcuts. When encapsulation is done properly, it's the foundation of everything else we put in place.
We also hung an Aprilaire E70 dehumidifier, suspended from the floor joists to keep it up off the liner and positioned where it can pull air from across the whole space. The E70 is a purpose-built crawl space unit - it handles high humidity levels and drains automatically, so there's no bucket to empty and no babysitting required. It just runs and keeps humidity where it needs to be.
The foundation walls got an Insul-Barrier blanket as well, which adds a layer of thermal protection and helps the dehumidifier work more efficiently. And out front, we swapped in a new PVC crawl space door. No wood to rot, no paint to peel - just a clean, tight seal every time you close it. It's one of those details that's easy to overlook, but an old rotting door basically undoes everything you've done inside.
Put it all together and this Holly Springs homeowner now has a crawl space that's dry, protected, and low-maintenance. That's exactly what a good encapsulation job should deliver.
