The old door on this Durham home had seen better days. It was warped, barely hanging right, and not doing much to keep moisture or pests out of the crawl space. That kind of deterioration is more common than you'd think - and it matters more than most homeowners realize.

Here's the thing about a crawl space door: it's the first line of defense for everything underneath your home. When it fails, you're looking at a direct path for humid air, insects, and even small animals to get in. That's a problem whether you have encapsulation in place or not.

We pulled the old door out completely and built a clean, solid frame using pressure treated lumber. From there, we fitted a new PVC door - a smart material choice because it won't rot, won't swell with humidity, and holds up to whatever the seasons throw at it here in North Carolina.

The result is a door that fits properly, locks securely, and looks finished. It's a detail that a lot of people overlook, but it ties the whole crawl space system together. Whether we're doing a full encapsulation or just improving access, getting the entry point right is always part of the job.

Small upgrades like this have a real impact on the long-term health of a home. A tight, well-built crawl space door helps protect your insulation, your vapor barrier, and the structure itself. It's not glamorous work - but it's the kind of thing that makes a difference you'll notice for years.
